Start higher up – go even bigger! Longer, more physical, more difficult, just… bigger! No-one else guides stuff like this.

High water flow / double guide rates may apply with consultation, usually early season.

The Leaping Burn Max is almost double the length of the normal Leaping Burn trip, with more challenging jumps, abseils and swimming.

The access involves a very steep climb, where you can assist yourself up the slope using fixed ropes. It even involves scrambling up using fixed ropes similar to a via ferata, a short, but slightly overhanging rock bluff!  The access hike can take up to 2 hours, requires good fitness and a good head for exposure to heights.

The Max trip is one of our most strenuous, challenging and technical adventures. There are many abseils (rappels) up to 20m (70’) high. These abseils are technical, requiring technique and confidence. Some go straight through and behind the waterfalls. Two jumps up to 8m (25’) and more challenging scrambles and climbs through the canyon. The swimming can be challenging at high water levels up to 10m (30’) long, though turbulent pools.

The Leaping Burn Max is one of the most difficult guided canyoning trips in the country. After an approach that can take up to 2 hours, you’re usually in the canyon for 5-7 hours. You’ll need a high level of fitness, good swimming ability, a good head for heights, and be comfortable in turbulent water. For this trip, we usually expect customers to have done some canyoning, rock climbing using ropes, or abseiling before
